HISTORY of the HEMPSTEAD PLAINS
Dr. Paul Van Wie, Associate Professor of History and Political Science at Molloy University, founding president of the Franklin Square Historical Museum, member of the Nassau County Historical Society and historian with the Town of Hempstead Landmarks Commission.
Sunday, October 22 - 1:00 - 3:00pm
Dr. Van Wie will talk about the historical and ecological importance of the Hempstead Plains, the only substantial natural tallgrass prairie east of the Appalachian Mountains, and home today to globally rare plants.
LYNDHURST MANSION & HOLIDAY LUNCHEON
We begin our day at Lyndhurst Mansion, one of America’s finest examples of Gothic Revival mansions, in Tarrytown on the Hudson River. After our guided tour, we will proceed to the RiverMarket Bar and Kitchen for our holiday luncheon before heading back home.

Children’s Classroom Experience with neighboring schools.
Topics will include some of the past favorites plus some new ones.
They will include hands-on projects to take home as well as an educator-guided tour of the garden.
